Washingtonville is a village located in Orange County, New York. The village is named in honor of America's first President George Washington. It was incorporated in 1895 and is within the Town of Blooming Grove. The first settlement of the town took place in 1731. In 1809 John Jacques, a shoemaker, set up his store with eight others in what is now Washingtonville, New York. The nine stores were then called Little New York. Jacques later established the Brotherhood Winery, the united States oldest winery, in the year 1839. Washingtonville is known as a charming bedroom community with recent subdivisions housing young growing families. It is located within a short distance of Stewart Airport, rail and bus lines to New York City vicinity. |
